How to rethink getting dressed in the morning
Like many of you, I have a lot of clothes, many that I don't get to wear as often as I'd like. As trends change, I often find myself with clothes that I am not so in love with anymore, or things that don't fit as properly as they should. When dressing for work one day, I decided to take a risk and combine two pieces of clothes that I normally never would. I took a blue dress shirt that is just a hair too big, and layered it over a pretty, hunter-green dress that I haven't worn in years because the V-cut is too revealing. By combining the two, the shapes flattered each other and a new outfit was brought to life.
When rethinking your wardrobe, look for pieces which you still like a particular aspect. Look for a second piece that will highlight the first item. Don't be afraid to mix and match colors and patterns, and various cuts and shapes. Not every piece you imagine will work together, but it never hurts to put it on and see how it looks together. Add shape to an outfit by cinching a skinny belt around your waist or pairing a flowy dress with a structured jacket. Accessories can also breathe new life into an outfit. Try layering necklaces, piling on bangles, or wearing a chunky men's-wear watch. Get creative! By upcycling your wardrobe, you will save cash by not buying new clothes and get the satisfaction of discovering a new twist on an old favorite.
